We often call Pakistan the hotbed of terrorism. If that be
the case we can very well call Delhi the epicenter of rape. Delhi is our
capital, our administrative capital where our rulers are supposed to reign and
conduct administration of the entire nation. If that be the case how come it evolved
into the hot bed of rapes which occur under the very nose of our rulers.
Compared to Delhi, Mumbai our commercial capital is far better of than Delhi
where barring a few cases women are well-protected and they often feel a sense
of security.
Close on the heels of the murder of Nido Tania, a 19 year
student hailing from Arunachal Pradesh, Delhi has been shaken by the brutal
rape of a Manipuri girl who is only 14 years old by the son of the landlord
where the Manipuri girl’s family is residing on a rental basis.
On Friday which
turned out to be fateful in the life of
this girl from North East ,she stepped out of the residence to purchase some
household articles who was espied by the owner’s son who followed her kidnapped
her and dragged her into a room and physically
and brutally raped and dumped her in a ‘secluded’ place. Her family
members apprehended something wrong somewhere, raised an alarm and their
neighbours went in search of the girl and finally spotted her. The girl who
sought the help from a man and apprised him of her pain and sorrow.
Unfortunately the man couldn’t make out
head or tail what she said and walked away helplessly. Next she went to a Manipuri
youth’s shop and told him what all transpired with fear and sorrow writ large
on her face, was traced by the neighbours along with her family members who got
her admitted to the Safdarjung hospital and on detailed exam confirmed rape.
While she was mercilessly raped and the CCTV camera in the
vicinity captured the whole scene which helped in finding out the culprit who was
identified and found to be the son of the landlord.
The North-Eastern states have often complained to the centre
for the racial discrimination meted out to them since decades, and this
incident was something unbearable to them.
The centre and Delhi govt under Arvind Kejriwal cannot
escape the blame for this shameless and painful incident for not initiating
steps to stop the menace called rape which has spread out like an epidemic
since a long time.
The ruthless rape of a physiotherapy student on a running
bus by a gang of six goons and who threw her to the street side on December 12,
2013. Her name was later named Nirbhaya who struggled for her life was airlifted
to a famous Singapore hospital fearing the wrath of Delhites who came out into
the streets, their rage and indignation went out of control and demanded the
govt to provide her better treatment so as to enable her to come back to normal
life. Her thirst for life was something heart-touching an till the last moment
she remained confident and determined. But fate decided just the opposite and
took her away to her heavenly abode. The gang underwent trial for the cruel
deed committed by them and within record time the court came out with verdict.
Five of the gang were sentenced to life-imprisonment and one was ordered to be
sent back to a juvenile home since as per records he was a minor.
Delhites must have mistakenly believed that such incidents
won’t be repeated in future. Such was their rage and indignation against the
govt irrespective of their age and status who came out into the streets of
Delhi protesting and demanding death for the gang of six.
That was that. Delhi continued to be raped again and with the unraveling of
the rape of Manipuri girl it seems Delhi is destined to be raped again and
again with those responsible to prevent it safely ensconced in their chairs.
Another round of protests, another round of rage and indignation of the
Delhites demanding exemplary punishment for the culprit can be expected.
