CITY
Somebody atop turned the tap
sky-opened up, showering profusely all around
after a long spell of summer
today, in our city.
The onset of monsoon
brought cheers to our faces
the atmosphere which was
simmering like red-hot iron
cooled down the entire city
our bodies and souls
and thrilled we were.
We, the residents of the flats
came out into the balcony
and leaning over it
watched the rain pouring
blessing the entire city.
The onset of monsoon
but brought tears in
the eyes of street-side dwellers
monsoon played spoil-sport
with their life
since they had nowhere to go
they ran helter-skelter
which none in the city
cared to notice
none in the city felt pity
and pain over their plight.
