SHATTERED DREAMS

On a dull morning,
with the sun hesitating,
to glow in the east,
with darkening clouds,
gathering in the sky,
she watched
a red-eyed stranger with dark
spots in his face
looking like a beast
walking towards her garden.
Heard she a fearful cry,
a cry for help seemed to her
but she knew not
the source of
that heart-rending cry.
Plucked he a red-rose flower
with his hands,
simultaneously heard she
another cry, a painful
one this time.
With tears welling up her eyes
tried she to trace
the source of the cry
turning her vigilant eyes and ears
but no
she was at a loss to
trace it, find it.
With the stranger disappearing
came out she,
still tearful
and with a lump in her throat.
Repeated cries
like a frog pleading
to a snake
caught in its mouth
to let it go free.
With eyes and ears vigilant,
she stood
but no
the source still
eluding her.
With shock in her eyes
saw she with a weeping
heart,
the crushed petals of that flower
strewen all around........
with the massive weight of a
shattered mind
ran she weeping
violently like a girl
gone mad -
hither and thither.
