KARNATAKA CONUNDRUM AND ITS 'HAPPY ENDING'

Have you heard about a middle-aged man named H.D.Kumarasamy. If not you should feel ashamed of yourself. He is the former Chief Minister of one of the Southern States of India called Karnataka. Mr.H.D.Kumarasamy is the progeny of a humble farmer from Karnataka - mamed H.D.Devagowda - a bald headed old man in white jubba and dhoti and a white towel hung over his shoulder. The old humble farmer form Karnataka though old is a sturdy chap and being of a rural origin his way of speaking Kannada, his mother tongue, is somwwhat raw. Though he is widely known as humble farmer from Karnataka - he prefers to be known as such, very adept in English also. Incidentally, he once happened to don the mantle of Prime Minister of world's largest democracy albeit for a short period and if not ditched by an 'old man in a hurry' named Sitaram Kesari, he could have served the nation by rescuing it from the morass the country found itself in. Some 'old men in a hurry' are like that unfortunately especially in politics where anything, everything is possible.
H.D.Devagowda, the humble famrer form Karnataka, though blessed with progenies other than H.D.Kumarasamy, his heart goes tender and soft when it comes to his former Chief Minister son. That too is possbile in all walks of life especially politics otherwise see for youself in the neighbouring State of Tamil Nadu. Chief Minister Kalainjar still wants his son Stalin to be his successor. Though Union Minister for Fertillizers and Chemicals, Alagiri is the elder one, Kalainjar's heart goes for Stalin. No wonder then. For certain things in life it is an ardous task to find explanations and interpretation. Even the affairs of the heart here I refer to love it is something subjective. Otherwise ask those who go on experiencing the sweetness of it.
My thoughts go wild sometimes it is like that, sorry, and let me come back to Karnataka, H.D.Kumarasamy and his father, the humble farmer from Karnataka, H.D.Devagowda, the Great.
Today Karnataka is being ruled by a national party called BJP (Bharatiya Janata Party) led by one B.S.Yeddyurappa - a God fearing man. Before him it was ruled by a party called Janata Dal (S) under H.D.Kumarasamy with the active participation of Bharatiya Janata Party. Till then Janata Dal (S), read S for Secular, was a sworn enemy of Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) with communal stigma engraved on it from the very day of its inception. Though the humble farmer took umbrage at the very mention of BJP as he is a proclaimed Secualrist, his son H.D.Kumarasamy without taking it into account joined hands with BJP when the mantle of Chief Minister was held out to him by the so-called communal Party - the BJP. Then everything moved fast and he took oath of office and was swor in as the Chief Minister of Karnataka.
The secular father who was the supremo of Janata Dal (S) and still he naturally 'got angry' and sacked his dearest son and a section of his followers from th party, remember, it is a national party and however the grapewine was it that he was covertly supporting his son to side with BJP, true or false, I don't know the reason being the supremo was toying with the idea of settling scores with the Grand Old Party - Indian National Congress Party - with which Janata Dal (S) was aligned before joining hands with BJP, one thing however became crystal-clear gradually and that was Father and Son came together and the son taken back to the party-fold. Janata Dal (S)'s units in other States stood flabberghasted unable to make out what all was actually happeining. Marriage of convenience - could we say ? otheriwse how come the sworn enemy of BJP one fine morning foun himself in the 'BJP' camp. Or the thickness of blood? Thickness of skin?. My God, I can't find any answer...
BJP - JD(Secular) alliance also didn't last longer that was not bound to last as the Bharatiya Janata Party in fact alligned with JD(S) in Karnataka reluctantly was for gaining and spreading its foot-hold in Karnataka at the expense of Janata Dal (S) and thus establishing itslef in a South Indian State first and gradually conquering the entire South India.
In the ensuing election its tactics reaped dividends. In the 225 member Assmebly it could snatch away 117 seats reducing Congress to 73 seats JD(S) getting relegated to the third position with 28 seats others being independent always ready to be horse-traded as and when required.
Naturally amidst state-wide celebrations BJP with the 'connivance' of a few independants formed a govt led by B.S.Yedyurappa - the first BJP goovt. in Southern India. Governance after all is not at all a smooth affair each political party is very well aware of it and naturally Yeddyurappa had to slug it out several times to cool the rising tempers and stave off threats of resignation giving him sleepless nights. And now he is caught in or got embroiled in such a piquant situation.
18 MLAs among the four are independants quite unexpectedly to the shock of the Chief Minister and to the National leadership have reportedly tendered letters of withdrawal of support to the Governor H.R.Bharadwaj incidentally he was former Congress man and former Union Minister and have fled the city - first to Chennai and when spotted there by the Reddy brothers industrial tycoons and Ministers of Karnataka, evading them flew to Kochi and when media people and irate BJP followers espied on them fled to Mumbai and the journey might end in Goa, even America. (The journey actually ended in Goa as per the latest reports) At whose expense these fellows are shuttling in between various cities, I don't know.
Media reports suggest H.D.Kumarasamy is behind all this drama other reports suggest leaders of Indian National Congress and H.D.Kumarasamy both are behind this 'box-office hit' but nothing anybody knows for certain. One thing is certain, currencies flow profusley and the highest bidder will win the lot in the end. (and the highest bidder reportedly clinched the deal thus giving Yeddyurappa, a new lease of life and as per the formula arrived at all rebel MLAs are promised Ministerial berths).
Yeddyurappa is very well confident that he is ready to prove his majority on the floor of the house on October 11 a day ahead of the ultimatum given by Governor.
Indian Democracy, JAI HO.
