On their wedding anniversary
a cable
landed on her lap
like a star from heaven.
Without being opened
she knew the content
and the author.
Her heart pounding
her fingers trembling
she went inside like a cat to hide it
from the reach of
her husband
he smelt something fishy
and followed her
‘whose language is this’?
-he thundered
she hung her head
her eyes went moist
she struggled for words
like a truant child
in front of the teacher.
In a fit of fury
he snatched the cable
from her trembling hand
like a kingfisher
arrowing down and flying
away with its victim
from the river.
‘With all good wishes always yours’ - Richard
read he.
As if learning by rote
repeated he those message
in an inebriated state.
A hard slap made her
squirm around
golden flies flying
around
she saw heaven and hell
simultaneously.
She paused for a moment
regained her lost courage
glanced straight in his
red eyes and
like a ferocious tigress yelled at him
‘yeah he is my one and
only love, now and forever’.
The man
stood frozen for a
few minutes
rushed out of the room
in anger
drove the car outside
came back in a fit of
rage with a call girl from the city.
Both of them made love
in another room
while his wife went speechless.
